I AM SO DISILLUSIONED WITH ERAGON

Dune + Lord of the Rings = Eragon
I AM SO DISILLUSIONED WITH ERAGON

I read Eragon after LotR at like age 12 and thought, "Oh elves, dwarves, orcs, dragons, whatever. I still like this. Riding dragons is cool." and "People say it's bad writing but if it is, I'm not bothered by it." and "He ripped off Star Wars? well, I haven't watched that"
But now I'm reading Dune (written almost 50 years ago by Frank Herbert) and I'm like, "Well Paolini, Herbert has got riding giant worm monsters, and it sounds a lot like riding dragons."
Elva in the Inheritance cycle is like identical to Herbert's Alia.

I am annoyed.

But *Dune*, people. It's sci-fi, not fantasy, but it's like LotR in that staggering way, how the world is so rounded it's entirely plausible that it exists. I mean, it obviously doesn't exist *here*, yet it has to exist, because it's so real!

And anyone read the Hunger Games? You know the "feels-level: Harry-Potter-Always" moment, where Katniss says "Stay with me" and Peeta says "Always"?
It. Was. Literally. In. Dune. So now I'm disillusioned with Mockingjay, too.
Oh and I read the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson which is very good/very creepy- if you liked the Hunger Games, you should read it.
